Hilton Falls
Hilton Falls is located in the Halton Conservation Area about an hour out of Toronto. Last Sunday afternoon I drove out with a couple of friends from my photography club to photograph the falls. Now we photographers are a hardy bunch. We’ll trek, hike, climb, get up at ungodly hours to get the perfect shot and you won’t hear us complain (at least not much) but after close to an hour hike to get to to the Falls I was bitten head to toe by mosquitos and black flies. (It seems this is one of the worst seasons we’ve had in many years). Yes I complained and used not so nice language but after processing my images all that mattered was that I got the shot 🙂

A Tree Grows There
Here’s another image from my workshop last weekend where I shot only in black & white. If you missed that post you can find it here. I really liked this tree (which was in the parking lot by the way…so don’t put your camera way when you’re walking back to the car) and I wanted to give it more of an artistic treatment.

A Tree Grows There
Happy Monday! The opening night of the group Landscape Photography Show which I was a part of was this past Thursday and I’m happy to report that it was an excellent evening. Actually I had a blast. I had family and good friends come out to show their support and encouragement as well as many other attendees. This was a first for me and it was a terrific learning experience. The exhibit will continue until March 15th. It’s very exciting to see your work printed, matted, framed and hanging for all to see. Thank you to all who attended on what was a verrry cold Toronto night.
On to today’s image. This was taken on a walk through Prospect Park in Brooklyn. I want to give this more of an artistic look so I used Topaz Simplify to process the image and added the BuzSim preset with some minor adjustments. I then processed the image further through Perfect B&W (which I’m really enjoying) to create this black and white version.

Nepenthe Blue Jay
While in Big Sur we stopped at Nepenthe for lunch. The view is beautiful…or so I understand it to be. Because of the fog we had the day we were there we only got to see glimpses of it. Nepenthe Restaurant, which sits high above the Pacific Ocean in the Santa Lucia mountains, is a popular spot. It was quite busy when we got there so instead of a table we opted for the first thing that was available which was seats on the terrace overlooking the Pacific. When out food came so did the Blue Jays. Do you know what this one is doing? Looking intently at my french fries…waiting for me to turn away so that he could steal one. Actually they don’t wait. They’re quite bold and one swooped in on my neighbours french fries and helped himself.

Now on to today’s image. The Lone Cypress is probably the best known landmark on the 17 Mile drive in Pebble Beach. It’s prevailed on this rocky perch for more the 250 years.

A Walk in the Judean Hills
When I first go through images from a shoot I mark the keepers (and the ones that I’m going to process), delete the technically poor ones and then there are the ones that are technically ok but just don’t jump out at me. Every so often I go through my archives and see something in an image that I didn’t see before. This was taken a few years back on a trip to Israel. We were in the Judean Hills not far from Jerusalem. It was mid-day and the sun was very harsh so the original image was washed out but when I looked at it again I really liked the way the tree was shaped. It almost looks like its going for a walk. I re-processed the image with a vintage monochrome look and really liked the way it came out. What do you think?
