Carpets for Sale!

HAPPY CANADA DAY & HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! I hope everyone is enjoying this long weekend and that it’s filled with family, friends, BBQs & lots of fun.

The image below is of a different type of gathering. The streets of Old Jaffa in Tel Aviv are filled with tourists and locals alike. If you’re looking for souvenirs, a suit of amor, a life-size rabbit and of course carpets then you’re in the right place.

I processed this image using my usual workflow of LR & Photoshop then used Topaz Impression and Topaz Texture of its final treatment.

Topaz Impression 2 has just been released by Topaz Labs and I have to say that this plug in and Topaz Texture are 2 of my favourites.

Get Topaz Impression now for only $59.99 (originally $99.99) with coupon code : 2IMPRESS (valid until July 7th).

If you’re already a Topaz Impression user then the upgrade is free.

Golden Jaffa

I haven’t blogged in close to 2 weeks and what has happened to the world in that time? Tel Aviv, Orlando, Paris! I don’t talk politics on this blog and rarely discuss current work events but this is enough.

I get angry when I hear reports of terrorist attacks; shootings; pledges of destroying a whole country. I ask the same questions over and over…how can people hate so much?….how does one take a life…or 4…or 49 so easily? Innocent human beings who are just going about their lives in a restaurant or nightclub. Once the initial anger subsides I realize that this is exactly the reaction these animals are hoping for.

I’m travelling back to Tel Aviv next month and I will go to the Sarona market and dine at a restaurant as I’ve done in the past. Later this year I hope to travel back to Europe. To my amazing neighbours to the south….I’ll be there in a couple of weeks.

I for one will not stop living. To quote Lin Manuel Miranda’s Tony acceptance speech (which was brilliant by the way)…

We lived through times when hate and fear seemed stronger;
We rise and fall and light from dying embers, remembrances that hope and love last longer
And love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside.

It’s time to let in some light!

Old Jaffa in Black & White

I’m very excited as I’m heading back to Israel in a couple of weeks. While planning travel always gets my adrenal going, this is very different as my son is there and it’s been almost 6 months since I’ve seen him. I’ve got lots of hugs ready to burst out of me.

I’ve posted images of Old Jaffa in Tel Aviv before on this site but this time I decided to process a series of images in black and white.

While the vibrant colours of the stones in the old city are very appealing I found that the monochrome really draws the viewers attention to the striking lines and tones in the images.

You can see more images from Israel and Old Jaffa in my gallery here.

As you can see I now have my computer back, new hard drive installed and back in business!

Old Jaffa Arches

Old Jaffa is a labyrinth of cobblestoned streets and alleyways with stone archways that lead the visitor to beautiful galleries and delightful middle eastern eateries.

I was actually looking for a gallery I had heard about and made a wrong turn and came upon this green lit scene.  I shot 3 brackets at +2, 0, -2 and processed the brackets in Photomatix. I then brought it back into lightroom and did minor adjustments to shadows & highlights.

Night Colours

The central square in Old Jaffa is a lively spot at night enjoyed by both tourists and locals alike.

On Friday I shared an image of the square with the bell tower of St. Peter’s Church as its centre point. You can see that post here. Next to the church is a restaurant with a fountain in front of it that is beautifully lit at night. You can see the lights of the restaurant in Fridays post but I wanted to get in closer so that I could capture the fountain and the colourful display.

On another note I was out volunteering at Toronto Animal Services last weekend and I’ve just posted images on my PhoDOGraphy by Edith site of all the wonderful animals up for adoption. Click on the link and considering sharing the post. You never know you may be helping one of these cuties find a forever home.
