I shot this image last summer while driving through Maine. We were on our way from Bar Harbor to Portland when we spotted this flea market and decided to stop and have a look around. There was a treasure trove of vintage and collectible items that just begged to be photographed.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Renewal
I was contemplating this week’s photo challenge and which image I should post. Naturally with a theme like “renewal” I was leaning towards posting an image of a bloom in the spring but then I started to think about what makes me feel “renewed and fresh.” It’s being out by the ocean…it does it to me every time and obviously this couple felt the same way on this day. I was a bit envious when I spotted them. It seemed that they had Otter Point (in Acadia National Park) all to themselves. I made a mental note to bring a chair the next time I visited 🙂

Maine – A “Vintage” Travel Poster
It’s been awhile since I’ve created (and posted) a “vintage travel poster” so I thought this would be a good time. I’m actually working on one for Bruce Peninsula National Park and hope to be able to share it with you shortly.
This is the second one that I’ve created for Maine. The first one that I did was for Acadia National Park which you can see here. This time around I just couldn’t resist but use an iconic place such as Portland Head lighthouse as the focus of this travel poster.

Portland Wharf
Brrr…it was a cold weekend in Toronto. We didn’t get any snow in the city but winter was definitely in the air.
I had a client who contacted me over the weekend who was interested in a couple of my images but wanted to know if I could convert them to B&W. I was more than happy to oblige and have added them to the gallery which you can see here.
I also spent some time over the weekend trying to catch up on processing my images. I’m a little backlogged but I’m getting there. This image was taken this summer in Portland. This is one of the wharf’s where the lobster fishermen come in to deliver their catch.
This image was processed in Photoshop and converted to B&W using Topaz Black & White Effects. If you haven’t tried Topaz B&W Effects you can find it here. Remember you can 15% on all Topaz products when you use the code “ELPhoto”

A Road Less Traveled
Back to Maine for this image. This was taken atop Cadillac Mountain right after sunrise. It was such a beautiful morning and we were already up….so we went for a walk.

The Light on the Horizon
For those of you that follow this blog you probably already know that I was in Maine in July and was up for a sunrise shoot at Portland Head Light. You can see those posts here and here. Well I ended up going back to the lighthouse later that day since not all of my travelling companions joined me at the crack of dawn…go figure 🙂
While I like the shots that I took later that afternoon, the problem was that it was very bright & sunny with not a cloud in the sky. Not such a big problem for a summer vacation but the harsh light doesn’t produce the greatest of images.
I quite liked this particular shot of Portland Head but I thought that I could add some drama but using a texture overlay and creating a more worn, nostalgic look to the image.

The last time I had posted an image with a texture overlay a few readers asked what the original image looked like so this time I thought I would share the original before I added the texture overlay.
