Weekly Photo Challenge – Abandoned
My contribution to this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge are some images that I took on my trip to Italy back in the summer of 2011. I originally process these as HDR when I first got back and was not at all happy with the way they turned out so I never posted them. Since that time I’ve started to use Lightroom and when I saw this weeks challenge I went back to my archives and decided to process just one exposure of each image solely in LR5. I was quite pleased with the end result. Let me know what you think.
Oh…we were driving from Florence to Amalfi on this day and stopped just south of Florence and came across this abandon farmhouse. What character this place has. It would make a great fixer upper 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge – Lost in the Details
I was going through some of my Italy images and realized that there are still a few that I’d never posted. Strolling through the streets of Florence not far from the Pitti Palace I came across a row of parked Vespas. What drew me to this scene were the subtle details…the way the Vespas were all lined up, they way they’re all pointing in the same direction, the shadows that the over head trees cast on the wall. They all work together so well.

This sculpture is located in the courtyard of the Pitti Palace in Florence and it was “Big!”

It’s Been A Year…Entry #52 – A Museum with a View
For those of you that have been following this blog you’ll know that I started this blog as a 52 week project. I wanted to challenge myself to shoot more often and I decided to start a blog and commit to posting a new image once a week. I started blogging using iWeb but quickly realized that it just lacked certain features and controls that I wanted on my site. Enter WordPress…after a lot of research, reading and immersing myself in all things having to do with weblogs I started this site.
The first post on my new WordPress site was on June 2, 2011. Now I’m sure that it’s quite obvious that I’ve been posting more than once a week. Buoyed by an indescribably wonderful photographic community and the many photographers and bloggers that I can now call “friends” this little blog grew every month. 52 weeks and just over 46, 550 hits later I can now say “Happy 1st Anniversary to the Little Blog that Could!”
One of the most wonderful benefits and outcomes of this blog is the wonderful community that I’ve now become a part of. I think I’ve said it before (and I will keep reiterating it) that the individuals in this photographic community are talented and generous with their time, knowledge and feedback, sharing information and tips that benefits not just myself but the whole community. You all foster in me a craving to learn more and be a better photographer. I thank you for that, I thank you for all your visits, comments and “likes” and I thank you for allowing me to be a part of this community.
So for Entry #52 I’ll take you back to Florence, Italy. This is a view of the Ponte Vecchio from the second floor of the Ufizi museum.

2011 – A Year in Review
I started this blog on June 2, 2011, almost 7 months ago. It hasn’t been a full year yet but as we bid farewell to 2011 and get ready to welcome in a New Year I thought it fitting to look back on the short life of this site and how I fit into this thing called the World Wide Web. I launched Edith Levy Photography & Project 52 as a way to share my images with family and friends and ensure that I make a commitment to get out and shoot on a consistent basis. I also hoped that this blog would allow me to connect with the photographic community, get feedback and learn from others.
Well what’s happened in the last 7 months has completely exceeded my expectations. I’ve been posting more than once a week. I’ve been shooting, shooting, shooting. I’m learning new post processing techniques everyday. I have met so many wonderful and supportive individuals….people that I’m proud to call “Friend.” I want to say Thank You to everyone that follows this blog and comes back day after day. It means so much to get your encouragement and feedback. I’m truly proud to be part of this community.
This blog has grown since its inception and I’m amazed to say that as of yesterday I’ve hit over 20,000 views. As I look forward to 2012, ideas keep swirling around in my mind on where I’d like to take not only this site but my photography as well. Â The only thing that I really need is time which there never seems to be enough of. The ideas are taking shape and I’ll tackle them methodically, one at a time until they become reality.
I’ve had some people ask if I sell my images…I do. Keep an eye out because early in January I will be adding a gallery to the site where images can be purchased.

An Italian Vignette
This past Friday Why Go Italy travel site published a guest post / photo tour I did for them on the Jewish Ghetto in Venice. You can see the photo tour here. I was very excited to partner with Why Go Italy on this because I used their site extensively in planning my trip to Italy this past summer. Everything from sample itineraries, off-the-beaten track recommendations and general advice on buying tickets to museums online. I found the site indispensable to planning my trip.
I thought it only appropriate to post an Italy shot today. This was taken in Florence. I was walking back to my hotel from the Pitti Palace and turned onto a small side street when I came upon this vignette. As I mentioned in a previous post I just love bicycles leaning against interesting walls or buildings, especially in Europe. You can see that post here.
