Malaga Sunset

I was fortunate to be staying at a hotel that had a rooftop swimming pool. Never did use the pool but it was a perfect spot to capture the sunset over the old town of Malaga.

Zurich at Night

The view of Zurich from our hotel was just as spectacular at night as it was during the day (only just a bit trickier to capture).

Jerusalem of Gold

The mountain air is clear as wine
And the scent of pines
Is carried on the breeze of twilight
With the sound of bells.

And in the slumber of tree and stone
Captured in her dream
The city that sits solitary
And in its midst is a wall.

Jerusalem of gold, and of bronze, and of light
Behold I am a violin for all your songs.

More Dizzying Heights & My Thoughts on Creativity

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend filled with family, lots of laughs and good eats 🙂 I don’t think any of my posts so far have garnered such opposing opinions as my Havana Rooftops multiple exposure that I posted last Friday.

Some of you didn’t like it…I mean really didn’t like it and some of you did. I actually found all the comments refreshing and I want to thank everyone that did comment and offered their opinion. As photographers we want people to like, no love our work. It’s one of the reasons we do what we do but it’s not the only reason. There’s also the self-satisfaction of creating something different. Sometimes when we look through the viewfinder we see something that may not be there physically but rather in our minds.  The definition of creative is “having or showing an ability to make new things or think of new ideas.” While some of these ideas will appeal to some they won’t appeal to others. I can just imagine what some people must have said when Jackson Pollock create his first piece of art.

Oh please don’t get me wrong, I am in no way comparing my work with that of Jackson Pollock. I’m just making an analogy between his experimentation and mine.

Some of you asked what the original image looked like. Here it is…

Havana, Cuba, rooftops, cityscape, travel photography

And I’ll give you one more of my “experimentations” before I leave and I promise I’ll get back to my regularly scheduled program with my next post 🙂  Oh…and please leave a comment and let me know what you think…either way.

Down Under the Manhattan Bridge

Sorry I hope you’re not getting tired of my images from DUMBO but I just loved shooting there. This was a beautiful spot to shoot the Manhattan bridge while also including  Jane’s Carousel (on the right). This carousel was originally created in 1922 and was installed in a park in Youngstown, Ohio. Jane and David Walentas purchased the carousel at auction in 1984, at which time Jane began the painstaking restoration in her studio in DUMBO. Jane’s Carousel opened to the public in Brooklyn Bridge Park on September 16, 2011.

I was thrilled with the final image and then decided to see how it would look in B&W. I love both versions for different reasons but I’d love to hear from you. Which one do you prefer?

City On The Edge

This is another image taken from Brooklyn Heights but a slightly different composition than the one in my previous post. This image was shot at sunrise but I decided to create a more dramatic image by giving it a B&W treatment in Perfect B&W by OnOne.
