We’re On A Roll!
One of my most favourite cities in the world is New York and I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to visit often. I was there at the beginning of July for a long weekend and the reason for this latest trip was more then just a weekend getaway but it was also to do a bit more shooting underground in the subway. There was a very special reason for this which I will reveal over the next few weeks so stay tuned.
I did manage to stay above ground as well and spent a day in Brooklyn shooting on a very hot, humid and rainy day.

Jane’s Carousel
Located in DUMBO is Jane’s Carousel, this beautifully restored 1920’s carousel which opened to the public in Brooklyn Bridge Park in September 2011.

Confessions of a Blogger / Photographer
This post is going to be little bit different from my usual posts so please bear with me. You may have noticed that I’m not keeping up with my usual posting schedule. I have a lot of balls in the air…being a mother, working full-time, satisfying my thirst for photography, blogging, managing all my social media outlets, volunteering at shelters and now working at building a pet photography business. Hmmm and those are just a few things I have on my plate.
I have a question for all of you. yes you….my blogging friends and followers. How do you do it? How do stave off burn out?

I love this Dilbert cartoon. Believe me there are times I’ve felt like paying my son to write a blog post or two for me. Don’t worry I haven’t. There are no ghost writers or photographers at Edith Levy Photography. So this is a good segue to my next disjointed thought. This is a photography blog. It’s not like I’m spending hours writing 500 to 1000 word posts, but the process of going out, shooting and processing images does take hours albeit enjoyable ones. This has been a rough winter for us Canadians. I love shooting winter scenes but with most days from December to the beginning of March dealing with -15C or less temperatures its been tough to be outside for extended periods. I know…you’re saying to yourself “suck it up buttercup” other photographers do it. Yup they do! And I commend them for it. I suppose I’m saying this because I feel like I’m in a bit of a creative rut. I’ve been spending so much time doing other things that I haven’t focused on what I really love to do and that’s to go out and shoot. So therein lies the problem. This self-imposed schedule has been taking its toll on me. I love the friendships that I’ve built while writing this blog. I’ve said it before and I will continue to shout it from the rooftops…this is a great community to be a part. So the short end of it…I may not be posting as regularly as I have. But you never know maybe I just need a couple of weeks to regroup and then I’ll be back with a vengeance.
Of course this being a photography blog I need close with an image. I posted this a couple of weeks ago to my Facebook page but never posted it here. Here’s another view of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge taken from Dumbo.
Hidden in Prospect Park
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Here’s another image that I took in Prospect Park in Brooklyn and decided to create a more artful version. Prospect Park
Prospect Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux after they completed Central Park in Manhattan. It’s a glorious park to spend time in and I have to get back there in the summer when the trees are full of leaves. It was a beautiful day when I was there and the sun was shining but I thought this image was better suited to a black and white treatment which added a bit more of a mysterious feel to it.
On another note I’ve started a new project called T.O. Dogs. I posted the first in the series over on the PhoDOGraphy by Edith Levy site. You can check out the first in the series, a Siberian Husky named Max here.

A Tree Grows There
Happy Monday! The opening night of the group Landscape Photography Show which I was a part of was this past Thursday and I’m happy to report that it was an excellent evening. Actually I had a blast. I had family and good friends come out to show their support and encouragement as well as many other attendees. This was a first for me and it was a terrific learning experience. The exhibit will continue until March 15th. It’s very exciting to see your work printed, matted, framed and hanging for all to see. Thank you to all who attended on what was a verrry cold Toronto night.
On to today’s image. This was taken on a walk through Prospect Park in Brooklyn. I want to give this more of an artistic look so I used Topaz Simplify to process the image and added the BuzSim preset with some minor adjustments. I then processed the image further through Perfect B&W (which I’m really enjoying) to create this black and white version.
