Israel Street Photography – Leaving Carmel Market
I was strolling through the Carmel Market in Tel Aviv when I spotted these two people walking toward me. I waited until they passed, believing that I would have a much more compelling image as they walked away.
Would love to get your opinion on this image. I know its busy, with the parked cars, the buildings and electrical lines but I opted to leave it as is. It’s street photography and I wanted to depict the scene as I saw it. So what do you think? Leave it as is or should I clean

Hi as pointed out earlier I love the b and w effect you bring out. I guess it’s not purely b and w, looks like some color channel has been striked out.
For composition, it’s good but in my opinion the frame without cars would have made much more strong composition. You are right capturing them approaching you would have killed the picture.

Good image! Perhaps better without the cars, but in monochrome I think it’s OK, after all, it is street photography!

I love the contrasting elements in the composition: contrasting figures, shapes, transportation, thoughts, emotions, etc.

Superb street photo Edith. I could see that on posters and cards. I think its busyness is its appeal and really does not distract, as it so easily could have, from the subject of the picture. I think its perfectly balanced and an excellent photograph!

Thanks very much Adrian. I appreciate the feedback. Your comment about it being balance made me smile. I actually tried cropping out the cars but then the couple were not centered and the whole image seemed out of balance.

I think the way you framed this, Edith, and how there is “space” around the focal point (the couple) is exactly right for the busyness of this photograph. I like it as is. Very strong, very poignant, and it gives me HOPE that people in the world have not forgotten Love. ❤

I think this is fantastic, Edith!
Just my opinion, but I like street photography shots in which you can see the environment that your subjects (people) are in. I think it adds so much, and lets the viewer’s imagination tell the story.

I’m 100% for leaving it – the clutter is part of the story as are the couple. Definitely called for B&W as color would have made it that much more busy. If I were going to do anything I’d take out the 2 cars on the side but I don’t think they detract from the scene. It’s a really interesting shot as is.

Yes it’s a busy photo, but that is really what makes it stand out; the contrast between the lovely couple and all the untangling wires and houses around them. I love this photo. 🙂
