Weekly Photo Challenge – Abandoned
My contribution to this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge are some images that I took on my trip to Italy back in the summer of 2011. I originally process these as HDR when I first got back and was not at all happy with the way they turned out so I never posted them. Since that time I’ve started to use Lightroom and when I saw this weeks challenge I went back to my archives and decided to process just one exposure of each image solely in LR5. I was quite pleased with the end result. Let me know what you think.
Oh…we were driving from Florence to Amalfi on this day and stopped just south of Florence and came across this abandon farmhouse. What character this place has. It would make a great fixer upper 🙂

You did a great job in Lightroom. I’m not a big fan HDR. Most of them over cooked.

When it comes to HDR I subscribe to Malcolm Gladwell’s theory of 10,000 hours to become an expert at anything. HDR is one of those things that really takes practice. As well, each of our photographs we create are our personal works of art. They are our interpretation of the moment. That moment might be a dark surreal grungee HDR or it might be a work of fine art driven by the light and composition. To remain “ho hum” as a photographer is a tragedy. We need to express our art. HDR can be wonderful!!! Embrace it. You images are fine. I like architecture processed in HDR with lots of detail and texture.

Spencer thank you for your comments. I don’t disagree with you. I do a lot if HDR and there are many in my gallery. I was just stating that not every scene benefits from that treatment and this was one of them. I like trying different things and having just started using Lightroom I was very pleased with the versatility of it.

Gorgeous. I love the way the lowest building in last one is starting to melt back into the ground. The colors are so warm and soft.

A beautiful landscape you have captured in these images. And there is something profoundly beautiful in decaying Italian house. Like they have always been like that – or should always be like that. Very harmonious colours.
