Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Panorama
The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk amusement park is exactly that. An amusement park right on the beach. The boardwalk has been in operation since 1907 and is one of the last seaside amusement parks in the United States.
This image is a 12 frame panorama that I shot from the beach. I didn’t have my tripod with me so did the pivot / swivel in the sand trying to stay as level as I could. Photoshop Elements did a great job of merging the images but at one point I thought my Mac was going to blow up. Once the merge was complete I ran the image through Topaz Clarity to give it some punch and that was it.

I am stunned that you could do this without a tripod Edith! Great job—as they say, don’t try this at home LOL!

Thanks Tina. I really wasn’t sure how it was going to come out but Photoshop did a good job of merging the images.

Wonderfully captured Edith. I have done that drive at least 15 times and have never stopped there. I guess I need to at least one more time. Glad your Mac didn’t explode.

As a child I lived on a bluff just to the south of the Boardwalk – a great panoramic shot!

Pretty cool shot! I’m wondering how long it took from shooting to editing (just curious … you WORKED for this shot)

Thank you. Honestly other images have taken me longer. Shooting was pretty quick. Since I din’t have my tripod with me I just found my position and shot the frames while pivoting around making sure that I overlapped each frame so as not to have any gaps. Once I was home I opened all the RAW files in ACR and adjusted clarity and vibrance universally across the 12 frames. I then loaded all the frames into Photoshop Elements and used the panorama merge. The computer did all the hard work. That process took about 10 minutes (I think). Once that was done I cropped the image and ran it through Topaz Clarity to give it some punch.

This is very nice – the only time I’ve been to Santa Cruz, we stayed at a hotel that was right on the beach (the Dream Inn) and our balcony had a view to the Boardwalk. Your photo is a very nice reminder of that trip.
